Essential paddling shorts for cold-river athletes.

You lose a surprising amount of heat through your lower body, especially when sitting in a puddle of cold water. After a few hours in the boat, that chill starts affecting your focus, enjoyment, and safety. That’s why at Canterbury Kayaking we require all our grade 2 students to have a pair of neoprene paddling shorts – and the Palm Quantum are our top pick. Made from 3 mm limestone neoprene, they keep you warm without restricting your paddling or swimming ability. The snug fit means fabric won't bunch up around your hips, and the high-cut back keeps you covered in a seated position. No zips, draw-cords, or pokey bits — just pull them on and go. If you're doing your Grade 2 course soon or planning a spring run through the Waimak Gorge, these shorts give you the warmth you need without getting in the way.

  • 3 mm limestone CR neoprene for low-bulk insulation
  • Flatlock seams for long-lasting comfort
  • PU printed seat for added durability and grip
  • High-cut back for better coverage when seated
  • Simple pull-on design with no zips or drawcords
  • Suitable for Canterbury Kayaking Grade 2 Courses and Guided Trips
  • Weight: 262g (XS), 245g (S), 363g (M), 300g (L), 312g (XL)
  • Materials: 3 mm CR limestone neoprene
  • Fabric composition: Inner 100% polychloroprene; bonded face 100% nylon; bonded back 100% nylon
  • To get the best fit, compare your body measurements to the size charts below.

  • Waist – Measure the waist circumference at the smallest part of your waist.
  • Inside leg – Measure from your ankle bone to your groin.
  • In between sizes – MT (Medium Tall) has the width of a Medium and the length of a Large suit.

Best neoprene shorts

I have owned several pairs of neoprene shorts but these are the best as they have high back and low front and no annoying toggle that digs in to waist.
