Kayaking Thermals

Layering for kayaking isn’t like layering for hiking or running. You can’t remove your jacket mid-rapid, or change a wet shirt without stopping. Once you’re on the water, you’re committed — so your base and mid-layers need to perform from put-in to take-out, through shifting weather, physical output, and (maybe) an unplanned swim.

This collection of kayaking thermals is built for paddlers who understand that staying warm starts at skin level. We don’t stock merino, and here’s why: once saturated, wool holds water and takes forever to dry. Instead, we rely on high-performance synthetics like Thermadry polypropylene, which doesn’t absorb water and dries fast, so you stay warm even after a full-body rinsing.

Need warmth without bulk? The Powergrid Fleece from Earth Sea Sky is a customer favourite. It’s warm, breathable, and stretchy. Unlike most fleece tops, it’s a clean crew-neck design that layers smoothly under a spray jacket or dry top without bunching or rubbing around the neck.

We also carry lightweight emergency base layers required for multisport events like the Coast to Coast, and all items have size charts to help you choose the right size.

So whether you're layering up for a freezing morning on the Waimak, a cold spring training session, or a multi-hour push into headwind, these are the thermal kayak shirts and leggings that'll help you stay warm and comfortable.
