Getting the Right Fit

  • Circumference: Measure the circumference of your kayak by running a tape measure or piece of string around the cockpit of your kayak under the lip of the cockpit.
  • Length: Measure the length of your cockpit from the longest point of the outside of the cockpit rim from bow to stern.
  • Width: Measure the width of your cockpit from the widest point of the outside of the cockpit rim.
  • Waist: Measure the waist circumference at the smallest part of your waist. Neoprene waist tubes are stretchy, so you might want to choose a smaller size to help keep water out if you are paddling without a jacket, or a slightly larger size if you are wearing lots of thick warm layers.
  • Cockpit sizes: You may want to choose a deck size larger than suggested here, especially if your kayak sits at the upper end of the recommended size. Different kayak brands have different styles of cockpits. Wide short cockpits may fit the same size of spraydeck as a long narrow cockpit. Use the largest dimension to determine which spray skirt to purchase. Or better yet, visit one of our dealers and try before you buy.
  • A tight fit: The easiest spray skirt to put on might not stay on the best or keep the most water out. Which is most important to you?
  • Stretching: A simple shock cord neoprene skirt will stretch more easily and be easier to put on than a reinforced skirt (like the Orbit) that has a rand and panels of KNytex, Gripsil or other protective materials. A neoprene spray skirt can be easier to put on when it's wet, try wetting the neoprene to allow more stretch. If your neoprene spray skirt is hard to put on when you first buy it, get a friend to help you put it over the cockpit of a kayak and leave it for a few days to help with the stretch. Over time, a neoprene spray skirt will stretch with use, becoming easier to put on your cockpit.

Serious protection.

If you’re a whitewater or freestyling fanatic, you need a hardcore spray deck in your kit—one like the Palm Impact Whitewater Kayaking Spray Skirt. This deck is your best bet for a comfortable day riding rapids or acing your cartwheels.

Made from a super stretchy jersey neoprene, the top of this skirt absorbs large amounts of pressure without the risk of the rim pulling off while you roll. A sticky Gripsil edge on the underside holds the cockpit closely, making sure the piece stays put. An oversized 3/4 neoprene lip provides extra protection, so you won’t be bothered by cold water trickling down your knee if a little spray comes your way. As an added plus, the O-ring seal holds the neoprene jersey waist tube in place around your body with or without a jacket, in case it’s too hot outside for those extra layers. Once you’ve arrived at your take-out, walking out will be a snap with a webbing release loop that features a handy attachment clip for drying and walking. This is a premium spray skirt that’ll suit all your whitewater and freestyling adventures to come.

Features:

  • Stretchy jersey neoprene fabric enables top to absorb pressure without risk of implosion.
  • Sticky Gripsil edge keeps cockpit seal in place.
  • Oversized ¾ neoprene lip provides extra security from the water.
  • O-ring seal holds waist tube in place with or without a jacket for added comfort in warm weather.
  • Ideal for whitewater and freestyle paddling.
