If you're paddling the Waimakariri Gorge comfortably, but know there is sill work to be done, our Advanced Multisport Course could be for you.
Focus on speed, not stability. Gain the skills you need to move from the intermediate category, to the elite level. Your instructor will take a look at your skill set, and help you transform weaknesses into strengths.
Make swimming a thing of the past. If you've got a "pool-roll" or a "sometimes-roll" now is the time to get your "river-roll" sorted. We've got the tools and drills to help you dial in your technique, and gain the mental fortitude to roll under pressure.
We customise every course specific to your needs. However, a unique feature of this program is the opportunity to access the Waimakariri Gorge via jet boat, giving us time to session the hardest rapids on the Coast to Coast race route.
So if you've hit a plateau, or are on the fast-track to faster lines, join our Advanced Multisport Course and experience the highest level of multisport instruction in New Zealand.
By the date of your course you must be able to roll at least 4 out of 5 times on flat-water, have paddled the Waimakariri Gorge swim-free more than once in your race kayak, and hold a valid Grade 2 Certificate.
You must be of good health and fitness, be at least 16 years of age, and between 50-110 kilograms.
You are required to bring your own multisport kayak. Most attendees paddle an "intermediate" category kayak. Sea kayaks are NOT suitable.
After my first week with Canterbury Kayaking I was hooked, so I did the Intermediate Course, then the Advanced Course, and became a very competent paddler. In C2C I finished 4th in my division after just nine months in a boat! I have now completed C2C five times and have a couple of wins under my belt, one year i achieved the fastest time in the kayak 2 day teams, not bad for a 45 year old. If you need that bit of encouragement and accept that some times we need to be pushed to achieve great things, then go see Sam and his team and Canterbury Kayaking. — Ian Martella (6 August 2018).
Sam is very professional and client focused. I'd definitely recommend Canterbury Kayaking to those wishing to maximise their Coast to Coast experience. — Ian Edmond, winner of the 1995 C2C Longest Day (6 February 2018).
It was awesome being instructed by Sam, who is so passionate about lifting the standard of multisport paddling skills in New Zealand. — Jess Simson, winner of the 2014 & 2015 C2C Longest Day (10 December 2014).
